Weathering the Storm

“When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” ― Haruki Murakami

So I hate some aspects of life right now. Boys suck basically. But anyway, I'm so glad I have nail polish and all my beautiful nail friends! Nail polish will always be there for me, it will never leave me! Anyway, I decided to try out ligthning nails. I roughly based my design off of that of The Daily Nail Blog's take on them.

Polishgate Haul

Well it's a week post Polishgate and many of us have gotten our deal hauls from them. I do have to say that I am thrilled this whole mess is over. It was way too much drama. It was also a rollercoaster of emotions. Friday night, or I guess it was Saturday morning because it was so late, we were all on a nail polish high and then Saturday afternoon we all had our dreams crushed. Then the drama followed, and oh man, the drama was strong. Anyway, on Wednesday I received my haul 13 bottles as opposed to the original 141 I ordered, but it was still a great deal!

I got 13 bottles in total. Seche Restore, Essie Turquoise and Caicos, China Glaze Sweet Hook, China Glaze Snow Globe, China Glaze Happy Go Lucky, China Glaze Blue Island Ice Tea, China Glaze Re-fresh Mint, China Glaze Luxe and Lush, China Glaze Fast Track, China Glaze Up All Night, China Glaze Riveting, China Glaze Tinsel Town, and China Glaze Skyscraper.

China Glaze Sweet Hook is swatched above, it is one of my favorites from the haul. It's kind of a purple/pink pastel creme.

I was shocked when I first put CG Riveting on my nails. It was SO bright and bold. It's a beautiful orange with gold shimmer in it. It's definitely an 'in your face' color and I love it!

Purple presents!

Last post for the day! I love the idea of what this mani was supposed to be but in the end it just didn't turn out. I probably should have spent more than 20 minutes on it! I still think it's kind of cute!

The only one I'm remotely happy with is the thumb!

Teed Off!

I don't think I've ever actually played golf but my friend loves it so I decided to paint some golf nails for him! It was actually pretty simple and I got to use green for a change which I hardly ever do!

Caught in a Web!

Wow I'm so behind in posting pictures of my manicures. I did these about a week ago as my first Halloween mani! I love Halloween! I will probably be doing multiple different Halloween inspired manicures, here is the first which is webs and a spider, with sparkles of course!

21 days until Halloween! Anyone else excited?

Hey everyone! There's a lot of new faces around here and I couldn't be happier! I know y'all came for the awesome giveaway but hopefully you'll stay for the awesome nail art? Maybe? Please? My manicure for you today is one I did for someone at work. They told me they wanted to see rainbows so I obliged. It took a while, probably about an hour and was kind of a pain in the butt! I love the result though!
So, I've got some happy on my nails for the next few days! YAY

Chinese architecture!

On one of the reddit subs, RandomActsOfPolish, someone is holding a competition in which we were to choose a photo and create a manicure inspired by it. Sooo, I looked through lots and lots of my old photos from China and picked this one that I took in the Forbidden City in Beijing!

Now there's a lot going on in that picture so I decided just to pick a few elements out like some of the intricate wooden carvings and the written banner. Here is the result! I wasn't happy with my photographs of this manicure because as hard as I tried, flash and no flash I couldn't get the color to photograph right. The actual color in person is a lot greener like the color on the pillars in the photo above. Maybe it's time to build a light box.

Yay! I like this manicure! I think I'll keep it for a while (three days maybe)!

DNA Sequence?

Ooops. I'm a couple days behind in posting. I did these a couple days ago. My original plan was to make them into bones but I stopped after I made the dots because I thought it looked cool!

Minty bows!

I used Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet for the green and Spoiled Correction Tape for the white bows.

3D Shades of Pink

These were inspired by a manicure by The Daily Nail Blog

Love this nude!

I've always been afraid of nudes but when I came across this one today and got home and tried it out, it was just perfect! Then I added the tips to just spice it up a little.

The nude is an e.l.f polish that has no name! It is part of a Target exclusive e.l.f collection and none of them have names sadly. The tips are black with Essie Shine of the Times on top!

Happy rainbow piano!

I saw this on some blog somewhere and I really don't like to take inspiration without crediting but it was on a compilation site and doesn't have a watermark on it. It's such a happy manicure though!

I feel like there's happy rainbow music on my fingers!

Orly Mysterious Curse

Just a simple manicure for a change. I dug this unused Orly out of my collection box and decided to give it a shot! I pretty much love it.

Reddit colors for my cakeday!

Yesterday was my reddit cakeday, which means I was celebrating a year of being on reddit! I didn't have time to paint these beforehand because I worked doubles the last three days. I finally got the chance to paint them tonight and I decided to do a curvy/stripy unique design with the signature reddit colors!

I spent two hours on this manicure, with all polish and a thin nail brush. The white is Spoiled Correction Tape, the orange is Sinfulcolors Oh La La and the blue is China Glaze Secret Peri-Wink-le

Monday, August 20, 2012

Let's see how long these last!

Between the fall/Halloween manicure and this one, I had just a plain purple/red color for work. On Saturday I worked a double, 8 hours and my nails went to hell and got all chipped. On Sunday I worked another double and it ended up being 11 hours. I broke two nails. I almost cried right then and there. Thank goodness they were on my right hand though! Anyway I worked today at my nanny job so I just got the chance to repaint my nails tonight and this is the result! I work again Wednesday and though I'm not supposed to wear these to work, I'm totally going to. They're going to get chipped anyway. I'll stop talking now. Swirls!

I used Orly Rose Radiance and Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Brilliant Bordeaux!

I'm ready for fall!

I just got my August Glamour in the mail today and looked through it. One of the spreads was a sneak peek of fall trends and this one picture stood out to me.

Photograph by KT Auleta

I absolutely loved the vest/trench coat and was so inspired by it that I decided to try the pattern. Well let's just say that the hexagons are very hard to paint with nail polish on such a small canvas. But here's the result.

Oh my goodness guys, I spent I think a whole 40 minutes on this one nail and it didn't even turn out how I wanted it. It's so hard to make straight lines with gooepy polish! So for the rest of the manicure I came up with random designs following the same color scheme.

For this manicure I used Sinful Colors Amethyst, Sinful Colors Oh La La and Love and Beauty Black Noir.

Well now I'm going to bed because I spent three hours doing my nails and I'm exhausted.

Testing the Waters

So at my new job, I'm not supposed to have crazy nail polish. The only approved colors are rosy pinks and soft reds which basically sucks. The first couple days I have my previous mani which was the ruby with the gold glitter and my manager didn't say anything so I'm really hoping they aren't strict about it. Today I had this beautiful lavender and she still didn't say anything. Now I'm gonna test the waters with this somewhat simple design.

For this manicure I used Sally Hansen Lacey Lilac, Spoiled Correction Tape and Sinful Colors Amethyst.

I'm just crossing my fingers that I'm not going to have a problem with my new job and my nail art hobby : (

The Liebster Award: Discover New Blogs!

Thanks to Vicky over at The Nail Artiste and Muffin Nails, I am happy to receive the Liebster Award, "given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers."

I think it's a great way to learn a bit about each other and encourage us to explore a bit of this big wide blogging community, so here we go!

Terms:
1) The recipient must post 11 fun facts about themselves
2) The recipient must also answer 11 questions created by the award giver
3) The recipient must give the award to 11 new bloggers with less than 200 followers and post 11 questions for them to answer
4) These 11 bloggers must be told they have been given the award
5) They will in turn pass the award on to 11 new bloggers of their choice (no tagging back the award giver)

11 Random Facts About Britta Rose:
1) My best friend is my seven year old black lab, Kirra. We’ve been through everything together
2) I speak Chinese although not as good as I did back when I lived in China for three years
3) I live in Tennessee and am not ashamed to say I like the south, and the word yall
4) I’m either glued to my computer or sleeping at all times. I work as a nanny too
5) I don’t like kids which makes the whole being a nanny thing kinda hard
6) I’m pre-med but I’ve got seven years left *sigh*
7) I would not function without Diet Coke
8) The narwhal bacons at midnight. Shout out to all my fellow REDDITORS!
9) I make the best chocolate pie IN THE WORLD.
10) I really enjoy driving around aimlessly and singing obnoxiously loud to the radio
11) Blue is my favorite color!

Questions for Me:

1) When and why did you start blogging?
I’ve only had my blogspot for a couple weeks but I’ve been posting on Reddit.com for almost a year which is when I started doing nail art. I guess I started a blog so I could have one neat collective place to put all my work. Also, the giveaways, I really really want to do a giveaway! Sadly I don’t have enough followers to warrant a giveaway.

2) How many bottles of polish do you own?
293

3) What color do you have the most of in your collection?
Blue and purple!

4) What is your first memory of nail polish?
When I lived in China, I was in Middle School at the time, and you could get pretty nice manicures for dirt cheap so my mom and I would go together and pick out pretty colors. The first time my interest really sparked was two Christmases ago when I was working as a cashier and a customer came through with one of the OPI Burlesque collection glitters on and from there I went on a mad hunt for it. Been infatuated with polish ever since

5) What do your friends/family think of your hobby?
My friends have been really great about encouraging me and complimenting my work. I have begun to turn my mother into a polishaholic. She paints her nails every three days or so now lol

6) What are your hobbies other than blogging?
Playing with my beautiful dogs, hanging out with my family/friends/bf and watching tv!

7) What's your favorite nail polish color?
Oh goodness. You can’t ask a polish obsessed person this. Are you really going to make me choose? Please no. Okay, fine, China Glaze First Mate. No Sally Hansen Ruby Rush.

8) What would be your dream polish?
Something that changed colors. Not just with sunlight, literally. Like an LED nail polish. I’m not sure how that would work but hey, you did say ‘dream polish’

9) What is something you love, but everyone else hates?
I really can't think of anything unique. I love the smell of my polish remover, it smells like berries to me which is odd because its just regular acetone in a gigantic industrial bottle.

10) What trends do you love?
I like anything galaxy, seems to be prominent lately. I love the Revlon Moon Candy collection!

11) What trends do you hate?
I dislike crackle

Here are 11 up and coming bloggers I'd like to pass this along to:
1) Susy In Color
2) Once Upon a Polish
3) Nail Craze with Dayze
4) Misadventures of a Wannabe Martha
5) Erin's Beauty Bumbles
6) http://lesamowen.blogspot.com/
7) Secretary's Nail Art
8) Lacquered Libra
9) Beaching Nails
10) Cute-icle Chronicles
11) Drugstore Junkie 13

Same questions for you!
1) When and why did you start blogging?
2) How many bottles of polish do you own?
3) What color do you have the most of in your collection?
4) What is your first memory of nail polish?
5) What do your friends/family think of your hobby?
6) What are your hobbies other than blogging?
7) What's your favorite nail polish color?
8) What would be your dream polish?

Rubies Dipped in Gold

So I've gotten a bunch of tags for the Liebster award that I need to get around to filling out but its so long, and I'm so lazy. Anyway, here is a manicure I did in ten minutes while I was rushing out the door to work at my new job at Ruby Tuesdays. YAY.

In brighter light

It's so hard to capture the luster of this mani. The base coat is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Ruby Rush which I'm on the hunt for now because I've almost used up 3/4 of my bottle and the gold is Milani Gold. I'm off to work again. Have a wonderful day lacqueristas!

The Incredibles! Guest post for Pixel's Polish

Hey lacquersitas! I got to do another guest post! The lovely talented lady behind Pixel's Polish has been awesome enough to let me do a guest post for her blog! She gave me the challenge of creating something inspired by The Incredibles and this is what I came up with. The three gradient nails were done using the sponging gradient method and the other two nails are freehand art which is my favorite kind.

For the white base coat of all these nails I used Spoiled Correction Tape. The red is Sally Hansen Cherry Red, the darker orange is Sinful Colors Oh La La, the medium orange is Spoiled Designated Driver, the bright yellow is Sally Hansen Lightening and the black is Wet n Wild Ebony Hates Chris.
I hope you all enjoyed seeing this as much as I did painting it!

Thanks again to Pixel's Polish for letting me do this very fun guest post.

Apple Blossoms: Guest Post for Apple Lacquer

Hey lacqueristas! The lovely lady behind Apple Lacquer has been kind enough to let me do a guest post for her wonderful blog, http://applelacquer.blogspot.com/ She gave me the challenge of doing a manicure inspired by her page background/theme so I thought I'd try to twist the whole apple blossom theme into a cute floral pattern. Hope y'all enjoy!

The base reddish/purple coat is Wet n Wild Ruby Rush, the pink blossoms are Wet n Wild Tickled Pink, the white is Spoiled Correction tape and the yellow is Spoiled Designated Driver. These can all be bought for around $3 each at drug stores!

San-Striped Coconut!

I have no clue what term has been coined for this design but I was way too lazy to look it up so I decided to call it san-striped. Mostly because it sounded cool and since I'm (almost, and used to be) fluent in Chinese and san means three, it made some sense.

The blue is Sally Girl Coconut and it actually smells like coconut once it drys!!

Periwinkle Periwinkle

I love this color! For once I just didn't want to put anything on top of this because it's so pretty. It's China Glaze Periwinkle.

Metallic Grecian Chocolate

I have so much nail polish that I haven't used so I dug this beautiful chocolate brown color out and fell in love immediately. Then I decided to spice it up with a gold design. End result: It reminds me of a Grecian design.

The metallic brown base is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Coco a go-go.

I got my eyes on you!

I did these following Chalkboard Nail's tutorial. The base is Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Ruby Rush and I must say, I love it. Below is the picture I took before I added the eyeballs.

Pretty Pink Roses

It's about time I got around to doing some roses since 'rose' is in my name! The main reason I chose rose is because it's my mom's middle name and I hope to pass it on to my kids as either a first name or middle name. Plus it's my mom's favorite flower!

I love this design. It took me a while since it was all freehand but I honestly wouldn't do it any other way. Stamping just isn't me. I love having that paint brush in my hand and making strokes. I used Sally Hansen Fast Fuschia, Just in Lime. As well as Wet n Wild Tickled Pink.

Pride by Lucky 13 Lacquer Review!

Well the aqua lasted a little less than 24 hours before I decided I wanted to repaint my nails. A couple weeks ago I entered into a Pride nail art competition hosted by Kyoti of Kyoti's Nails I got the random winner prize which was a bottle of her rainbow glitter 'Pride' from her new polish line called Lucky 13 Lacquer.

I pretty much love this glitter polish! I don't think I've ever seen a glitter polish with every color of the rainbow and this is just wonderful! You all should definitely head over to Kyoti's Nails and check out her awesome indie polishes!

I'm counting this as my first real blog post!

I painted my nails again last night! Surprise, surprise. I have been growing out my nails for a while and I can say with certainty that this is the longest they've ever been. It's a bit scary because I have already broken one on my non-photographing hand (thank goodness!) and I'm definitely worried about breaking others.

I absolutely love this color! It's a fairly old one, but it's new to me. It is China Glaze Aquadelic. Also, is it sad that the only time I really go into the sunlight is to photograph my nails? I think it is. I'm so pale.

Snake! Oh and some nebulas.

I forgot one! One of my absolute favorites actually!

This is my second attempt at nebulas. I did it for my boyfriend. He loves space and I attempt to listen whenever he wants to to talk about it even though it doesn't make much sense to me! Also, this is his snake, named Snake because he couldn't come up with anything good :P This is one of my favorite pictures on my blog because it reminds me of him every time I see it :) Well damn, sorry to get mushy. There isn't much that means more to me than nail polish and at the moment he is one of those things. Along with my dog and diet coke.

Tribal?

Okay, I'm done for now I think. Below is my most recent mani. I'm not exactly sure what this was intended to be. I did it at 2am and didn't spend a ton of time on it. I think I'm gonna repaint my nails tonight so be looking for my new mani's!

Also, follow me and I'll follow you! I'm not exactly sure how it works on blogspot but I'll figure it out.
